OUR MISSION

Increase Afghan people’s access to quality, online skilling in Dari, Pashto, and English to strengthen their income generation in Afghanistan and foreign countries.

What we do

OUR VISION

The Afghan Thrive Program delivers online learning and skills training to bridge the gap between education and employment for Afghan people. Leveraging leading education technology platform Coursera offers more than 12,000 courses, with 4,000 courses translated into Dari and Pashto from leading universities and employers around the world, including professional, accredited job certificates.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.

Afghan Thrive learners are also eligibile for a growing number of education, employment, and mentorship opportunities. Please see the tabs below for additional details. Learners may also earn professional job certificates from the world’s leading companies and demonstrate mastery of new skills via guided projects. Some of these job certificates are recommended for college credit.

Courses

Afghan Thrive grants Afghan people anywhere in the world with free access to a number of courses in English and up to 4,000 courses in Dari and Pashto. Browse the Coursera Catalogue here.

Learning Pathways

We curated optional learning pathways specifically for Afghan people. All of the courses in these learning pathways have been translated into Dari and Pashto. Completion of any of these learning pathways will earn learners a badge and certificate for each course.

Learners may also earn professional job certificates from the world’s leading companies and demonstrate mastery of new skills via guided projects. Some of these job certificates are recommended for college credit.

Bad Internet?

Through the Coursera mobile app, you can access your courses in low-data downloads and learn offline, without internet. Once your device reconnects to the internet, all of your progress will be uploaded and saved.

Need a learning device?

While the Thrive, Program is unable to provide learners with mobile phones, tablets, or laptops, you can check out options for obtaining learning devices from other organizations here.

Join a study group

Join a group of your peers in a Telegram study group, facilitated by a Afghan leader.

Learner Eligibility and Responsibilities

(Available in English, Pashto, and Dari)

  • Afghan people, as verified by the referral partner
  • Valid email address and ability to monitor it at least monthly
  • Inactivity for 30 days may result in disqualification and transfer of your license to another learner
  • Learners are expected to uphold the highest standards of academic honesty and integrity
  • Questions? Please contact the organization that referred you to the program. 

Referral Partner Responsibilities

(Available in English, Pashto, and Dari)

  • Register Afghan people in your networks as learners
  • Adhere to public communication guidelines
  • Assign a point person to coordinate with Alight and Coursera
  • Support your learners with any questions, guidance, or wrap-around support they may need, such as access to internet, learning devices, or mentorship. No mentors available? Click here!
  • Monitor and provide feedback to Alight on improving the experience for your learners
